Somehow all of the words I had written on this release inexplicably evaporated... maybe that's a sign nothing need be said about this EP or just one of your bog standard glitches in the system.

In short, this is the second release by Mary Pearson Andrew as 33, following a very limited lathe-cut ten years ago. Originally hailing from the USA, where Andrew made up one half of Thrill Jockey released duo High Places, she has been based on the outer fringe of Sydney for the better part of a decade. Aside from rare live performances supporting Liars (and appearing as a vocalist on their 2021 LP The Apple Drop), Mary has largely kept 33 close to home in the time since. Troth was lucky enough to share a show at Wombarra Bowling Club with 33 in 2021, leading me to invite Mary for a release on AST, which she graciously accepted.

Bradley is a collection of four varied mutations in the experimental synth pop gene pool. Opener, ‘Diminished Return’, possesses the Classic Energy and regularly worms its way into my head. ‘Lasta’ and ‘Full Time Out’ at times edge closer to indie-adjacent electronica, but to describe them as such is to not open your ears (or mind) fully to the subtle head games of their production. The beatless title-track closer plants itself most firmly on the experimental fringe. There is something like a stripping away over the course of the EP, wherein you are left with glistening bare bones by its end.
